Her life took a turn in 1990 when she was 16 years of age. This was when she came in contact with Joey Buttafuoco who owned an auto body shop nearby. Amy’s father used to take her along to his shop to get this car repaired and Amy ended up developing feelings for Joey, who was 35 at that time. Amy began to visit the shop by herself after a while and the duo embarked on an affair while Amy was still underage.

As their relationship began to grow, so did Amy’s jealousy of Joey’s wife Mary. Her jealousy and hatred reached a point where she decided to get Mary out of her way by any method. She got her hands on a .25-caliber gun and convinced Peter Guagenti to be her getaway driver. With everything planned, Amy visited Mary and claimed her husband was having an affair with Amy’s imaginary sister. The conversation got heated and Mary told Amy, making her bring the plan into action. She struck Mary with the gun in the back of the head before shooting her in the face and running away. Mary’s neighbors heard the gunshot and immediately called 911. Mary was found unconscious and taken to the hospital where she was operated on successfully. While the doctors failed to remove the bullet, Mary’s life was saved. She did end up with paralysis on one side of her face and a loss of hearing in one ear.

Joey Buttafuoco named Amy as his prime suspect to the police which was later confirmed by Mary upon regaining consciousness. Amy was sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison but was released on parole after serving 7 years.

Upon her release, Amy started working as a columnist in the Long Island Press. Soon, Robbie Woliver wrote and published a biography on her named “If I Knew Then…” which turned out to be a bestseller.

In 2006, Amy and Mary appeared on several episodes of Entertainment Tonight and The Insider. She later appeared alongside Joey for a coin toss in the 2006 Lingerie Bowl. In 2007, a sex tape between her and her husband Lou Bellera was sold to the Red Light District Video by Lou himself allegedly. The video was supposed to be released in 2007-08 but the company was sued by fisher before they reached a settlement. Amy later appeared on The Howard Stern Show but ended up leaving within the early minutes.

In 2009, Amy herself released an adult film on pay-per-view, called “Amy Fisher: Totally Nude & Exposed”. One year later, she starred in “Deep Inside Amy Fisher” which was produced by DreamZone Entertainment. In 2011, Amy announced she had quit her pornography career.
