Mario Lopez is an actor and TV host, arguably best known for his work in the series of sitcom Saved by the Bell and its sequels. Since his debut in 1984, Lopez has been a regular presence in both Tv and cinema. He most recently starred in the revival of Saved by the Bell that ran from 2020 to 2022 for two seasons. His latest full role in a movie came in 2016’s Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, a mockumentary musical where he appeared as himself.

Lopez was born in Chula Vista, California on October 10, 1973. He belongs to a Mexican lineage as both his parents had migrated to the USA from Mexico. Lopez was into acting and dancing from an early age. At the age of 3, he was training in jazz and tap dance. When he turned 10, Lopez was noticed by an agent during his dance recital, who got him into ads and commercials. Lopez was also interested in karate and wrestling when growing up. He got into the school wrestling team while studying at Chula Vista High School.

Lopez’s first TV role outside of commercials came in 1984 at the age of 11. He appeared in an acting role in a.k.a. Pablo, a comedy series, and then as a dancer and drummer on Kids Incorporated. Between 1984 and 1989, he appeared in multiple minor roles before getting selected to play the role of A.C. Slater in the sitcom Saved by the Bell. He acted in the show from 1989 to 1993 when it went off the air. In 1993, the show received a spinoff titled Saved by the Bell: The College Years and Lopez returned to reprise his role. The show only aired for one season and ended in 1994.

During his time on Saved by the Bell, Lopez also hosted Name Your Adventure. He continued his run as a host with America’s Best Dance Crew, Top Pop Group, and the 1995-96 season of Masters of the Maze. in 1997, he played the role of Olympic diver Greg Louganis in the movie Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story. He joined the cast of Pacific Blue in 1998 and stayed on the show for 2 seasons before it was scrapped.

From 2002 to 2005, Lopez was appearing on the Animal Planet show Pet Star as a host.

In 2006, Lopez participated in the 3rd season of Dancing with the Stars alongside Karina Smirnoff, who he was also dating at that point. The duo made it to the end but had to compromise with the second place eventually. In 2007, he hosted Miss America, and then in 2009 and 2010 as well. Lopez debuted on Broadway in 2008 with the musical A Chorus Line. In 2012, he got a radio show of himself to host on Premiere Radio. He started hosting iHeartRadio Countdown’s AC edition in 2014. Lopez also hosted X Factor on two occasions in 2012 and 2013.

Lopez is currently married to Courtney Mazaa who he has two sons and a daughter with.
