Jonathan Aryan Jafari is a YouTuber and internet personality known better by his online alias JonTron. Jafari rose to fame with his series of reviewing movies, video games, and more. The videos involved not only serious criticism and commentary but comedic elements and parodies as well.

While he has been fairly successful for nearly a decade, his series of videos about Flex Tape in 2018 is what pushed him into mainstream YouTube stardom. JonTron is not extremely active on YouTube but keeps posting new content every once in a while.

Jafari was born on 24 March 1990 in California’s Rancho Palos Verdes and belongs to a mixed lineage of Iranian and Hungarian descent. Jafari spent most of his youth there, passing out from the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in the year 2008.

He was fairly active on the internet from his middle school days and used to upload animations to Newgrounds, a website popular among gamers and animators before the arrival of social media. During high school, Jafari created his YouTube channel named BirdmanXZ6, a username he used across different platforms. The channel only has two videos on it today.

In 2010, Jafari created the channel the channel JonTronShow that he is using to this day. His earlier content consisted mostly of video game reviews and gameplays. The same year Jafari, alongside Austin Hargrave created NormalBoots, a website for posting content and earning extra revenue. They were later joined by Jirard Khalil, Indie Games Searchlight, Continue?, Cold Morning, and more later on.

Jafari first rose to fame with the 2012 video game series Game Grumps that he and his animator friend Arin Hanson came up with. They created a separate channel named Game Grumps which Jafari was a part of until 2013. Jafari appeared on more than 600 Game Grumps videos before leaving to focus on his own channel.

Jafari returned to reviewing games on JonTronShow and by the year 2014, his channel had more than a million subscribers. In 2015, Jafari created a 9-episode-long web series focused on Star Wars games, called JonTron’s StarCade.

The series was a hit and featured appearances from other YouTubers and actors like Markiplier, Ross O’ Donovan, Nathan Barnatt, and more.

Jafari started expanding his content from 2016 onward beyond just video games and reviews. In 2018, he made a video about Flex Tape, a waterproof adhesive tape brand with over-the-top commercials and claims presented by its CEO Phil Swift.

The video went viral and also brought a lot of attention to the brand. It is still the most-watched video on his channel with over 68 million views. He followed it with a sequel to the video which also featured an appearance from the CEO Phil Swift himself.

Over the years, Jafari has reduced the frequency of uploads but every new video of his does well in terms of views and is loved by the fans. His channel is currently at 6.66 million followers with over 1 billion total channel views.

Aside from YouTube, Jafari has done voiceovers for a couple of channels and also released a comedy album with The Gregory Brothers in 2016.
