Bobby Estell, famously known as Bobby Bones, is a TV and radio personality known for hosting his own show called The Bobby Bones Show. Bobby also served as a permanent mentor on American Idol before retiring from the position in 2022. Aside from being a host, Bobby has been a successful writer having published three books. Two of his books were New York best sellers. Bobby is a part of a musical duo called Bobby Bones and the Raging Idiots alongside Eddie Garcia.

Bobby was born on April 2, 1980, in Mountain Pine of Arkansas, and is an American national by birth. Bobby’s father left him and his mother when Bobby was just 5 years old and he was raised by his mother and maternal grandmother. Growing up in a poor household in the 1980s, the radio was Bobby’s only friend, and being on the radio became his dream at an early age.

His dream of having a career in radio began to materialize when he was just 17. Bobby was a part of Henderson University’s campus radio station KSWH-FM. He also studied Radio-TV as a Bachelor of Arts from Henderson University and graduated in 2002. Bobby also joined Arknsas’ KLAZ as a station hand when he was still studying. He was soon promoted and given an on-air role. The manager of the station suggested the name “Bobby Bones” among others and it stuck for the rest of his career.

Within the year of his graduation, Bobby got himself hired in Little Rock’s station called KQAR before moving on to KLAL. His stint with KLAL landed him his gig on Texas; KHFI FM where he started hosting The Bobby Bones Show. At KLAL, he met Dan Chappell aka Lunchbox, and Amy Brown who ended up being his co-hosts of The Bobby Bones Show.

KHFI FM was owned by Clear Channel (currently known as iHeart Media) and aired Bobby’s show in a Top 40 format for over a decade. In 2012, the channel decided to change its region from Austin to Nashville and the format changed to country music. The show had hosts from outside of the country genre as well. Over years,  The Bobby Bones Show has hosted celebrities like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Luke Bryan, John Mayer, and more.

Since 2013, the show has been syndicated nationally by Premiere Networks and is available on over 150 radio stations across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. The Bobby Bones Show has nearly 9.2 million weekly listeners today. Bobby hosts another successful show called “Country Top 30 with Bobby Bones” that is available on more than 100 radio stations.

Bobby was named the Best Radio Personality for four years in a row from 2004 to 2008 at the Austin Music Awards. In 2017, Bobby was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame and became the younger inductee ever.

Bobby Bones has tried his hand in music as well. He formed a duo with Eddie Garcia. The duo used to make tunes for fun to air on the radio but has released a full studio album too. The album came out in 2016 and is called ‘The Critics Gave It 5 Stars’.

Bones has been married to Caitlin Parker since 2021 and the couple lives together in Tennessee.
